Ice Fishing

Fishing Report

Eagle Nest Lake:  The ice thickness is running about 11 to 12 inches.  fishing is good for trout using salmon eggs, spawnsacs or worms.  Perch is also doing good using worms.

Cimarron River:  Flow has been cut off for the winter.  Fish will be spooked easily with low and clear water.  Tiny dry flies and small non-beaded nymphs are recommended.  Fishing will be better below Clear Creek.  Please practice catch and release.

Red River:  Fishing is good with worms, power bait and salmon eggs.  There is not much top water action.  In the Rio Grande and lower Red River try using prince nymphs or flashback pheasant tails, size 16.

  1. Hi there , I spoke to Tim Judd today at the lake. He said the ice is 7″ thick and needs to be 9″ before the game & fish department will open the lake for ice fishing. Those of us “die hard fishermen & women” are waiting with great anticipation ! As soon as I get the word I will pass it on ! Be well ,Nancy
