Chili Challenge Vendors
The miles are endless whether you are a road cyclist or a die hard mountain biker.
For the road cyclists….
Right out our front door we have hundreds of paved miles to mix up the terrain and effort level. All of our routes have good pavement with ample shoulder and a great mixture of hills for the aerobic/anaerobic workout and plateaus just in time for recovery.
From Angel Fire you can travel south to enjoy the scenic view of Black Lake ranch country. Once in Black Lake the decision brings you two totally different results, continuing on 434 can bring you as far as you want to go where the downhill is exhilarating but the return trip is known as the “wall” or you can take 120 which brings you three great climbs to the end of the pavement for a return trip that is mostly downhill.
From Angel Fire you can take 434 to 64 north to enjoy the rolling hills to Eagle Nest, one of New Mexico’s newest State Park, Eagle Nest Lake. Once in Eagle Nest you can head to Red River on 38 for the Bobcat Pass hill climb and continue through Red River to Questa on to Taos and home to Angel Fire for a total mileage of 98 or you can continue on 64 as far as Raton but our favorite is to Cimarron and have lunch at the St. James Hotel.
For the mountain bikers….
Right out the back door of Angel Fire (without ever loading your bike on a car) you can ride forever! The Carson National Forest is some of the most spectacular mountain biking terrain. It has great 10 mile loops for the quick morning ride or the fun evening ride when you are short on time or you can take the South Boundary ride make it a full day of challenges and fun. You can head to the Angel Fire Resort for a world class cross country course to increase the anaerobic threshold or test your abilities on the technical downhill course.
The choices are abundant and the Moreno Valley is full opportunities to get out the bikes and go!

My husband and I are road cyclists. We will be coming to Angel Fire in July and we would like to rent road bikes. Is there a bike store in Angel Fire which rents road bikes?
Kathi, Mountain Sports, 575-377-3490 is the main bike shop in Angel Fire. Unfortunately they only rent mountain bikes. Gearing Up Bicycle Shop in down town Taos 575-751-0365 rents road bikes.
Hope this helps,
Tara Chisum
