This area is not just about the beauty and wildlife but sometimes about the night life also. We are very fortunate to have a local winery in our back yard. The Ritchie-Slater Winery is about 5 miles south of town and features dry fruit wines as well as some other New Mexico wines. The locals hang out there on Friday and Saturday nights when a local band plays and most people bring a pot luck dish for everyone to enjoy. People get up and dance or just enjoy sitting on the dcek watching the sunset. Set in an 1800's barn there are other activities that take place such as private parties and weddings. Check it out somtime and tell Pearl Rogers sent you!

Willie's has relocated, under the name of Sunset Grill, to the base of the ski hill where Aldos and the Lazy Lizard used to be. They continue to offer Willie's wonderful barbecue and tortilla soup (yum!), as well as, an expanded menu of delicious appetizers and entrees: fried green beans, fish and chips, and a wonderful pasta dish with Italian sausage. They also have a full bar and serve, at a very reasonable price of $3.00, one of the best margaritas I have had in a long time. The dining room is spacious, but my favorite place to dine is on the patio, with friends, under an umbrella enjoying the beatiful mountain views!

It’s hard to say what a favorite dining spot is because there are so many to choose from. They all offer something different from the Yu Garden a chinese restaurant, to a long time local owned Pizza Stop, to the Willies Smokehouse, to the Texas Reds Steakhouse, to Avalons and the fine dining of the Roasted Clove. Yes, it just ends up being a matter of what you are in the mood for because they all do a great job and they are all in the Moreno Valley!

My favorite meal of the day is breakfast and my favorite breakfast spot in Angel Fire is Our Place Café. Usually my routine starts with a stop at the Angel Fire Mini Mart to buy the daily Albuquerque Journal on my way to the Café. Our Place Café has a daily breakfast buffet that is loaded with breakfast options and is the perfect option if you have a large group or are in a bit of hurry. I usually order from the menu because I am not in a hurry and like the way they prepare my breakfast, “just my way”. Most of the time I don’t make it through much of the newspaper because I end up talking with locals about activities and politics, swapping stories with other realtors, or answering questions and chatting with visitors about Angel Fire and the valley activities.

Cost:
Newspaper - $0.50
Breakfast – $6.95
Coffee - $1.50
Finding a new client and friend at the café - Priceless

The Roasted Clove Small Plates menu has three summer entrees that are the perfect size meal for me. I especially love the Lettuce Wraps! Paired with French Onion soup I still have room for dessert....the white chocolate bread pudding with cinnamon ice cream. The atmosphere and the excellent attention of the servers make a great evening. www.roastedclove.com (reservations recomended)

On Friday afternoons, around 4:30 I order a take-out pizza from Tallons. I leave work, pick up my pizza and drive out to the Richie-Slater Winery. I sit outside on the deck and enjoy one of the best views in the valley, with a slice of pizza, and glass of wine. I always find myself in great company, and always bring extra pizza to share. It's the perfect way to end the week.
