In the ENCHANTED CIRCLE of Northern New Mexico you will find a small town called ANGEL FIRE. We’re excited to welcome you, your friends and family here to our wonderful mountain community. Legends of Ute Indians, miners, ranchers and priests mingle to create the legend of Angel Fire – named for the fiery afternoon light splashed on alpine peaks. Nowadays we’ve gone global, hosting multiple world-class events, but we still manage to hold on to our true mountain lifestyles.

We are looking to retire & relocate from IL.
First heard about Angel Fire through a job offer that did not work out. Have been to Albuquerque & Santa Fe many times.
Would like to know more about Angel Fire: weather, housing costs, etc.
Really interesting read! Really.
If I had a nickel for each time I came here… Superb read.
Rita is correct in that we have almost no crime here, however when I first moved to the Moreno Valley I was just 16 and my parents rented a trailer in El Bordo trailer park just south of Angel Fire while our house was being built. The owner of the park was Paul Blades. We had been in contact with he and his first wife for over a year as rentals in this area were hard to obtain at that time. During this period Paul’s wife commited suicide while he and her were having a dinner party. No one could prove he had any involement however the cloud of doubt followed him. By the time we got to Angel Fire he had remarried a woman we called Marc. She was a very sweet lady and her and Paul became friends with my parents. Early in 1980 the story goes that while Paul was napping in the main house Marc went to the trailer next door and took a shower. While she was in the shower the trailer some how caught fire and she perished in the blaze. Again Paul came under suspicion and the rumors flew. Shortly after this Paul called a friend and resident of the park Wayne Henderson. He told Wayne he could not live with the rumors and was going to take his own life. Wayne told me all he could hear was the sound of the snow crunching under his feet as he ran toward the main house and that he never heard the gun shot however when he arrived he found Paul dead of a single gun shot wound. The story ended there and the rumors still are told by the people who were here at that time. I don’t know if this will give you any material but this was one of the more interesting things crime wise that has happened here.

Hello,
This is the first time I have been on your blog.
Just thought I would let you know that I loved it!!
Keep it up!!
Has the snow melted yet? We can’t wait to get back to Angel Fire this summer. We were talking today about walking around the lake, which is one of our favorite things to do. I love to take some horseback trips into the wood,s too. Sounds like a lot is happening, and that is great. See you all soon.
I first came to know Angel Fire 4 years ago. I’m a Real Estate appraiser. This has been my life for 20 years. Presently our country is coming back from a difficult economic time. I see Angel Fire as one of those “Best Kept Secrets”. There are homesites with water hydrants on the mountain with panoramic views. Real Estate has always been a solid investment until the past few years. I believe that is now behind us & I see great deals on homesites in Angel Fire, positive changes such as the first NIGHT SKIING in this area, a newly constructed Country Club opening spring of 2010, new condo projects, & new infrastructure. Angel Fire is on the way up. Owning a homesite in this community maybe a solid move for a second home or retirement retreat. The fresh pine air of Angel Fire is incredible, it suprises me everytime I visit.

Tom C,
The crime rate here in Angel Fire is very low. The newspaper, Sangre De Christo Chronicle, may have archives that you can research. With regard to writing about the area, I would suggest contacting one of our local authors, like Connie Shelton, who is a well known mystery writer and includes area information in her books. Good luck with your endeavor!
I’m working on a murder mystery story with the setting in Angel Fire. A question I have is when was the last homicide in Angel Fire and what were the specifics?
Thank you in advance
I first moved to Angel Fire when I was three years old. It was such a wonderful place to grow up. I remember spending most of my childhood on the ski area or riding fourwheelers. I was also fortunate enough to take music and dance classes, play t-ball, soccer and basketball. It was a childhood that I will always cherrish. After moving away for school, travel and work I am now fortunate to call Angel Fire home again. There is something about this place, it gets in your blood.
